A Pinterest Recipe I Actually Made

A recipe from Pinterest that I actually made

It's easy to make fun of Pinterest enthusiasts, such as myself, for idly wasting time pinning recipes and projects that you will never actually do.

But tonight -- I made a recipe that I found. And it was awesome.

As with any recipe, it required a bit of improvisation. Anyone who knows me knows that I have little to no interest in cooking, yet I don't like processed, Frankenfood at all. This may explain why hummus is such staple in my diet. I like easy, grab and go food. You will never find me braising anything. Ever.

Quinoa has been having a bit of a moment lately on the food blogs, and perhaps because of this it has become oddly expensive. Instead of quinoa, I made this dish with couscous, and it's great. Also: since I didn't have fresh corn from the cob I inadvertently used creamed corn and it gave the dish a smooth texture without having to use any butter.

I'm eager to see how this tastes after a few hours in the fridge. I have a feeling it may be my new go to recipe for pot lucks.

That said, if you've been randomly pinning recipes, make a few of them. This one took less than 20 minutes to make, prep and all.

People You Must Follow On Twitter

I was an early adopter to Twitter back in 2007, and over the years I've amassed quite a collection of people to follow. These are a few of my favorites.

Anthony Crupi: He's a writer at Adweek and if I'm not mistaken I sat on the other side of his cube when I worked at Nielsen. He makes dark humor a high form of art.

The Tiny Buddha: For your daily dose of Zen.

Hamptons Born: A 30-something handyman, born and raised in East Hampton, tweets about his bizarro clients.

The 99%: Tips and essays about creativity, etc. Little nibbles of inspiration.

Fifty Shades Of D'Agostino's

How smutty can a book be if you can pick up a copy along with a gallon of milk?

I love that it's in the same rack as the Nora Robert's book.

You can now get your smut with a gallon of milk!

'Seven Devils' And Revenge

The Revenge finale Wednesday night was outstanding. For a show that's not even considered mainstream it has some of the best writing and plotlines on television. I wish the press wouldn't call it a soap opera, because it isn't, at least not by the traditional definition.

And the choice to use Florence + The Machine's "Seven Devils" as the soundtrack during ending's montage? Genius.

This is not the official video, but it's excellent. The song's been on a few other shows this spring, but I think this was the best use of it.

Fendi Baguettes!

I love that these are back. Baguettes have always been my favorite shape for a purse.

An entire book was written about the history of Baguettes.

New Version Of The Great Gatsby!

We all know now what I'll be obsessed with at Christmastime.

Dear New York City Parents...

There are two rules in New York City playgrounds:

1. Always keep the gate closed.
2. Don't let your kids ride a bike or a scooter. It's against park rules.

If we remember this, then all our dreams will come true.

It's Such A Perfect Day

Untitled

My brother Andrew is getting married in June to a gal named Kristin. In Italy. On Lake Como. Not everyone could make it over to Europe, so a little lawn party was thrown for them on Sunday.

Of course I brought Jen and Erin along. They needed an airing out from New York City. Untitled

I love this dress. I love even more that I got it for $20 from the Venus catalogue in the middle of January.  Untitled

Ready For The Party!

Off to Old Greenwich for my brother Andrew's pre-wedding party. It's a gorgeous day. See ya later, Manhattan!

The dress is from the Venus catalog. For serious. They have some great stuff.

A Little Palladio On This Gorgeous Day

It's far too gorgeous in New York City today to be inside. I've taken a quick break from running the loop of Central Park and sunning myself on the roof deck. I need to get some color before the big Millard party tomorrow in Connecticut.

Enjoy this piece, Palladio, by Karl Jenkins. I know it's the same piece that was in that De Beers commercial a number of years ago. It's still a great piece of music.

Poetry In Penn Station

Who knew? When I was dropping off the fellas this evening (they're in Pennsylvania, which makes me unsupervised for the weekend) I saw this on the wall in the New Jersey Transit waiting area. Poety in Penn Station

Poetry In Penn Station

In other news, the gals over at Girl Around Town did a fantastic update of the party scene from Breakfast At Tiffany's. That said, if you see me on Fifth Avenue at 5:00 a.m. this weekend, do say hello.

Seen in Murray Hill, of course.

A dog/cat/litter of hedgehogs is not a replacement for a child. Sorry, cat ladies.

No. No. And No.

Lieutenant Dan = Wounded Warrior Activist

Gary Sinise, who played Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump, is an active supporter and fund raiser for wounded warriors. 60 minutes ran a great profile of him last night.

A 10K On A Beautiful Day

At the start

Finished a 10K yesterday in 59:56. The time is okay, but it was a such a gorgeous day that I can live with being about 30 seconds slower than the last 10K I did. Maybe I don't need to stop for water. This is the last race I'll be doing for a while, since most of the May and June races are filled up. I've done six since February, and two of those were half marathons. In terms of physical fitness, I'd day that's pretty respectable.

I don't usually stay for the awards, but there was a raffle with tons of prizes. I didn't win anything, although I was gunning for two free plane tickets to Abu Dhabi.

There were lots of pro runners at the 10K, but the most inspiring was the second place winner, Leonard Korir, from Kenya. He finished just two seconds shy of the first placer, who was an Olympian, and, at age 25, it was his first professional race ever. He couldn't dally on the stage, though, because at 11:00 a.m. he had to get to the Javits Center in order to graduate from Iona College. Talk about the best day ever: winning $12,000 in your first professional race, nearly beating an Olympian for the top slot and earning a college degree. leonard

The Story Of The 404 Page

This is a short TED talk about 404 pages -- those pages that show up on a website when you've hit a bad link. The video of the bicyclist doing a facer is priceless.
