I was just walking down the street, pre-coffee, when I saw a group of college kids walking towards me. Goodness knows why they were up this early. More distubring, though, was the 19-year-old guy who was wearing a New Kids on the Block T-shirt, circa 1989.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again: NKOTB will never be ironic. Boy band resurgences never work. Do we not remember The Monkees comeback tour from 1986? Case closed.
Also, when life imitates telenovellas: a telemundo anchor is being placed on leave because she's been dating the Los Angles mayor, who is leaving his wife for her. Best part? She reported it on her newscast, failing to mention that she's the homewrecker. See, cheetahs never prosper.

This post raises an interesting question; was the Monkeys a Boy Band? To answer this properly, one would first need to define what differentiates Boy Bands from non Boy Bands. However, since that would require that the deliberative body (in this case me) actually listen to a Boy Band (sorry but my Radio Disney days are over), I’ll simply say that no, the Monkeys were not a Boy Band. Bubblegum maybe but not a Boy Band.
Sure, they were a fake concoction put together by television executives to recreate Beatlemania, and sure only two of them could even play instruments (tambourines don’t count), but would a Boy Band open for Jimi Hendrix? I think not.
P.S. Does the fact that the Monkeys evolved from the Beatles prove that rock and roll follows reverse evolution? However, since they were the product of corporate executives, does that not also imply that they evolved due to intelligent design (assuming of course that corporate executives are intelligent)?
